If there will be increased demand for gas in the winter months, Turkey can ask Russia to supply additional volumes of fuel, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz told reporters on Tuesday, the Hurriyet newspaper reported.

"Russian side is ready to meet Turkey's needs in additional gas volumes in addition to the signed agreements. Turkey will turn to Russia in case of necessity," Yildiz said.

Yildiz said Russia can supply about three billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey in addition.

According to the Turkish State Pipeline Company Botas, in 2011, Turkey imported 39.7 billion cubic meters of gas. Russia ranks first among countries exporting gas to Turkey. The country is followed by Iran and Azerbaijan.
