Trend:

The Ministry of Energy will be created in Uzbekistan in the near future, Uzbek media reported referring to the presidential decree.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed the Energy Industry Reform Commission, headed by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, to prepare by Dec. 15, 2018 a draft presidential decree on the formation of the Ministry of Energy.

The organization and regulation of the activity of the fuel and energy complex of Uzbekistan will be entrusted to him.

Before March 1, 2019, the commission should develop a modern scheme for organizing the production, transportation, distribution and sale of electric energy. It should provide for the widespread attraction of private, including foreign, direct investment in enterprises for the production and distribution (sale) of electric energy, including under conditions of a public-private partnership.

At the same time, full state control over the transportation of electricity will be maintained with the gradual formation of a modern wholesale electricity market based on competitive procurement of products directly from generating companies.
