In order to be structurally independent from the oil revenues, Iran must cut costs, but this is not possible, Iranian Economic Affairs Minister Farhad Dezhpasand said, Trend reports citing ILNA.

He noted that the country has not achieved the independence of economy from oil in several decades after Iran-Iraq war. "We have not managed to separate oil from the budget," he said.

"We are not able to structurally cut budget oil dependency. In order to be structurally independent from the oil, we must either cut costs, which is not possible, or increase tax or other revenues, which will require hard work to be done by experts,” he added.

"However, we did increase some of our other revenues as a measure to make the economy less dependent on the oil revenues,” he said.
