Georgian TPP receives electricity generating license

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 28

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) has issued electricity generating license to LLC Gardabani Thermal Power Station 2, Trend reports via Georgian media.

Meanwhile, the 230 MW combined Thermal Power Plant (TPP) located in Gardabani Municipality was put into operation this year.

The projected output of LLC Gardabani Thermal Power Station 2 is 1.2 billion kWh.

Combined-cycle, modern thermal power plant ensures the reliability and stability of the country's electricity system, especially during the winter season, when the volume of electricity generated by hydropower plants is minimized due to lack of water in the rivers.

The plant consists of the following units: Gas Turbine Generator "21" with 75 mgwt nominal capacity, Gas Turbine Generator "22" with 75 mgwt normal capacity and Steam Turbine Generator of 80 mgwt.

The plant has a function “launching from zero”, which is provided via autonomous/independent diesel generator (Black Start Diesel Generator). This function enables the TPP to be started even during the so-called System Black-out.

A similar TPP with an installed capacity of 230 MW, Gardabani 1, has been in operation since 2015.
