A thermal power plant built by Iran's MAPNA Group has been commissioned in the west of the Karun River in connection with the operation of Iran-Iraq joint oil fields, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh said, at the event dedicated via videoconference in Tehran city, Trend reports citing IRINN.
The minister stressed that in connection with the operation of these oil fields, it was decided to create a unique thermal power plant.
Zanganeh added that this thermal power plant has 2 gas and 1 steam units. Two gas units of the TPP start operation today.
Zanganeh noted that the National Iranian Oil Company will buy the produced each kilowatt of electricity for 2.25 euros from MAPNA Group.
According to the minister, a total of 320 million euros was spent on the construction of the TPP.
"The daily oil production from the Azadegan, Yadavaran and Yaran fields in the west of the Karun River, which are Iran's joint oil fields with Iraq, has increased from 70,000 barrels to 400,000 barrels," he said.
Zanganeh said that Iran's oil production from these fields will increase to 1 million barrels per day with the completion of the improvement plans.
"About $6.2 billion has been spent to increase production of oil fields in the west of the Karun River and 216 oil wells have been drilled," he said.
