Number of oil, gas wells drilled in Iran announced

The National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) drilled and improved 106 oil and gas wells during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through January 19, 2021), said Ahmad Tamaddon, Deputy Director of the NIDC, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

The deputy director noted that 25 development and delineation wells, 4 exploration wells and 77 repair wells were drilled.

Tamaddon added that 79 wells were drilled in the territories of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), 10 in the Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC), 9 in the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC), 3 in the Iranian Central Oil Fields Company and 5 wells were drilled based on the order of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC).

"Of the wells drilled in the territories of the NISOC, 17 were development and delineation and 62 were repair wells," he said.

The deputy director stressed at present, 28 light and heavy drilling rigs are being relocated in Iran's oil zones.

Iran has 125 oil fields and 59 gas fields. The country's total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 836 billion barrels. With available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 239 billion barrels. Thus, 29 percent of the country's hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 71 percent remain underground.
