Kazakhstan now to fully cover local demand for octane-increasing additives

Kazakhstan will now fully cover the needs of domestic market in octane-increasing additives, Trend reports citing the Development Bank of Kazakhstan (DBK).

To allow this, the plant for manufacturing of methyl-tret-butyl-ether (MTBE) was commissioned in Kazakhstan’s Shymkent. Its production capacity is 57,000 tons of MTBE per year, which fully covers the needs of the domestic market.

Thanks to the region has its own MTBE production, one of the main oxygen-containing high-octane components used in the production of unleaded motor gasoline, Euro-4 and Euro-5 environmental class fuel will be produced domestically.

With the launch of the plant, Kazakhstan fully covers the needs of domestic market in octane-increasing additives, which is about 80,000 tons per year and allows the domestic refineries to maintain its competitiveness and create technology for the production of environmentally friendly gasoline of international standards.

The construction of the plant began in 2019, while designing they used the world-renowned Etherification technology of AXENS French company, which is one of the international leaders with advanced competences in MTBE production.
