BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 29

Trend:

Turkmenistan pays special attention to the boosting of transport and transit communications along the East-West and North-South routes, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said, Trend reports citing Turkmenportal.

“In particular, we are talking about the creation of Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman, as well as Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey transport corridors," Berdimuhamedov said.

According to him, at present, the construction of power transmission lines on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan route and a railroad from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan is underway.

"The construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline is being rapidly conducted," he added.

The president also expressed confidence that the joint opportunities of the countries won’t be limited with the above projects.

"Today we need additional energy, transport, and transit corridors both between the countries of the ECO (Economic Cooperation Organization) and other countries. In this context, there is a great demand in the establishment of a goal-oriented dialogue with such interstate associations as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Eurasian Economic Union, Commonwealth of Independent States," the head of state further said.

The implementation of large-scale infrastructural projects with the participation of the ECO member states means a breakthrough in the formation of a new geo-economic region on the continent, opens up colossal prospects for cooperation, attracting large foreign investments, and solving a number of important social problems, he concluded.
