BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. The volume of gas taken from the Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility in the Razavi Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran) increased by 4 percent, over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), which is a new record, the technical affairs director of the Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC) Ahmad Rajabi said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

The director said that in total, about 2.08 billion cubic meters of gas were taken from the Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility over the last Iranian year.

* Taking into account the changing weather conditions in the country, the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) divides the year into two parts gas production, supply and transportation. According to the company, 7 months are marked as hot months, 4 months as cold months, and 1 month as normal months. The start and end dates of the hot and cold months vary depending on weather conditions.

According to Rajabi, daily 10 million cubic meters of gas could be pumped into the Shourijeh D underground storage facility in 8 months of the year, and daily 20 million cubic meters could be taken from the underground storage facility in the 4 months of the year.

"After the launch of 2nd phase of Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility, it could be pumped 20 million cubic meters of gas daily into the underground storage for 8 months and could be taken 40 million cubic meters daily from there for 4 months," he said.

On March 31, 2022, Iran launched operations on the second phase of the Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility in the Razavi Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran).

These operations are carried out on the basis of a contract signed between the Iranian Gas Development and Engineering Company and the MAPNA Group on December 22, 2021.

According to the contract, the operations will be completed in three years and the second phase will be used for 20 years. The contract is worth $2.2 billion.

As part of the contract, 28 wells will be drilled, a gas collection center will be built, and compressors and other necessary equipment will be installed.
