BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 9. Iran's Hydroelectric Power Plants are expected to generate 15 million megawatt-hours of electricity for the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), Deputy Director of Iran Water and Power Resources Development Company Ahmad Kavousi Nejad told IRIB, Trend reports.

The official said that a number of measures have been taken to increase electricity generation at hydroelectric power plants to eliminate the electricity shortage in the country this summer.

Kavousi Nejad added that the peak time for electricity consumption in the country is the summer months. Taking this into account, the country's HPPs have generated 3,000 megawatts of electricity from the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022) to June 9.

“The power generation capacity of Iran's HPPs is 12,000 megawatts, which accounts for about 15 percent of the country's total electricity generation capacity,” he noted.
