TEHRAN, Iran, August 29. Iran is seeking to export 1.5 million barrels of oil per day to Europe, a board member of the Institute for International Energy Studies Morteza Behrouzifar told Trend.
"China is reluctant to import oil from Iran while Russia offers discounts on its oil export," he noted, adding that Europe has the capacity and interest to buy Iran's oil.
Following the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran used to export about 700,000 barrels of oil per day to Europe, which is no more, so Iran could increase its exports in European direction, said Behrouzifar.
He pointed out that Japan, South Korea, and the European Union are proper markets for Iran's oil export.
"Iran has a considerable amount of oil onshore and offshore reserves, and the technical knowledge to increase production in three months and export oil to the global market," he said.
According to the official, Iran's oil export to the European market will be a challenge to Russia since it is using energy to pressure the European countries.
"Iran's oil export would moderate the market but it will not significantly reduce prices," said Behrouzifar.
