BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug.2. Azerbaijan's natural gas exports have experienced a notable evolution over the last five years, Trend reports.

In 2022, the country's natural gas exports reached 22.918 billion standard cubic meters, compared to 19.280 billion standard cubic meters in 2021, reflecting an impressive 18.9 percent year-on-year increase, as estimated by OPEC.

Azerbaijan exported 9.190 bscm in 2018, followed by 11.300 bscm in 2019 and 13.310 bscm in 2020, showcasing a steady upward trend in exports over the years.

During the first half of 2023, Azerbaijan exported natural gas to Europe (5.7 billion cubic meters), Türkiye (five billion cubic meters), and Georgia (1.3 billion cubic meters). Notably, a significant portion of the Türkiye-bound gas, amounting to 2.8 billion cubic meters, was transported via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP).

To enhance natural gas exports to Europe, Azerbaijan introduced the Southern Gas Corridor in late 2020. The Trans Adriatic Pipeline, which serves as the European leg of the corridor, initially had a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters, with potential expansion up to 20 billion cubic meters. In July 2022, Azerbaijan and the European Commission reached an agreement to double the volume of supplies through the Southern Gas Corridor by 2027.
