European Investment Bank is expected to boost its activities in Azerbaijan within Energy Memorandum

The second stage of the discussions related to the project of memorandum of mutual understanding on the strategic partnership in the energy sphere was held in Brussels. The talks were held from 28 to 31 August, Trend reports with reference to the statement of the Economic Development Ministry of Azerbaijan. The composition of the delegation included economic development minister Heydar Babayev, minister of industry and energy Natik Aliyev, deputy foreign minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev, head of the parliamentary commission for energy, ecology and natural resources Valeh Aleskerov, department director in the Presidential Office Shahin Aliyev and the head of Azerbaijani representation in European Union Arif Mammadov.

Within the discussions of the energy part of the action plan held in Baku in July, European Commission offered to include new articles envisaging signing of a memorandum with Azerbaijan.

The memorandum implies expanding cooperation with oil producers and transit country Azerbaijan, and strengthening energy security between sides. As it was mentioned in the statement of the Economic Development Ministry, the document was included the proposals of Azerbaijan as a result of negotiations held by present.

The memorandum intends approaching the energy markets of Azerbaijan and European Union, upgrading the legislation in the energy sphere, conducting structural transformations, strengthening the security in the energy supply and transit system of the country, measures on energy savings and technical cooperation. According to the memorandum, there is a possibility of expanding the activities of the European Investment Bank in Azerbaijan.
