At the moment, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) carries out production in 56 oil and gas fields with 38 onshore and 18 offshore. Since the beginning of production on January 1, 2006, 1436.7 million tons of oil (together with gas condensate) and 485.5 billion cubic meters of gas have been produced from the fields exploited in Azerbaijan, Trend reports with reference to the report of SOCAR for 2005.
Last year, SOCAR put 114 new wells into exploitation, instead of intended 73 wells. Joint ventures and operating companies have put 41 wells into exploitation. As it was stated in the report, drilling new wells is the key tool to keep and increase the production in fields. Therefore, SOCAR intends to pay increased attention to exploitation drilling.
In 2005, additional 403.6 thousand tons of oil (129.2 th. offshore and 274.4 onshore) were obtained from wells, in which water pumping is carried out. Production Unit Azneft of SOCAR have pumped 4885 th. cubic meters of water to support blanked pressure.
By using other methods of increasing the productive capacity of reservoirs, the oil production of Azneft has increased by 46.9 th. t.
