A total of 714.6 million transactions worth 12.3 trillion tenge ($30.5 billion) were implemented by card holders in Kazakhstan over the period from Jan. through Apr. 2020, which is respectively 72 and 53 percent more than during the same period of last year, Trend reports with reference to the Kazakhstan’s National Bank.
Increase of non-cash transactions share in total structure of payment card transactions to 62 percent was observed during the reporting period (from 39 percent).
At the same time decrease of payment card transactions was observed (by 21 percent), compared to Mar. 2020. Non-cash payments decreased by 18 percent, transactions on cash withdrawals decreased by 25 percent. The decrease was due to the decrease of citizens activities as a result of introduced quarantine restrictions.
The volume and value of non-cash payments over the period of Jan. through Apr. 2020 amounted to 615.3 million transactions worth 7.6 trillion tenge ($18.8 billion), which is double the volume during the corresponding period of 2019.
For the most part the transactions were carried out online: the average daily number of transactions carried out daily was 2.6 million transactions worth 48.7 billion tenge ($121.03 billion).
Card holders on average carried out 5.1 million non-cash payments daily and 827,000 transactions on cash withdrawal. At the same time the average sum of non-cash payment was 12,298 tenge ($30.5), whereas that on cash withdrawal was 47,598 tenge ($118.2).
The overall number of payment cards in circulation in Kazakhstan amounted to 37.8 million cards over the period from Jan. through Apr. 2020, of which 54 percent (20.5 million) were active.
The data said that the number of payment cards and their holders has been growing in Kazakhstan since the beginning of 2020.
The volume of plastic cards issued in Kazakhstan amounted to 37.8 million cards as of May 1, 2020, and 54.2 percent on them were used in Apr. 2020.
