Uzbekistan’s cash turnover in January 2021 increases

The amount of cash turnover in Uzbekistan in January 2021 reached 32.1 trillion soums ($3 billion), Trend reports with reference to the Central Bank of Uzbekistan (CBU).

According to the overview of the banking turnover of cash in the country for January 2021 published by the CBU, the total cash turnover showed an increase of seven percent compared to January 2020.

In particular, it is reported that the volume of cash receipts to the cash desks of banks amounted to 17 trillion soums ($1.6 billion), while the expenditure of cash accounted for 15.1 trillion soums ($1.4 billion).

At the same time, there was an increase in the consumption of cash through bank cash desks (including ATMs) by 6.7 percent compared to January 2020, which was mainly due to an increase in the volume of cash withdrawals from bank cards by 1.7 trillion soums ($162 million), or by 1.5 times.

As a result, the share of cash withdrawn from bank cards in the total volume of cash spent by banks increased from 25 percent to 35 percent.

In addition, the volume of funds transferred to bank cards in January 2021 amounted to 15.9 trillion soums ($1.5 billion), while 5.2 trillion soums ($496 million), or 32.8 percent, were cashed out from bank cards by the population.
