Azerbaijan records increase in transactions via payment cards by almost 50%

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 23. As of May 1, 2023, the turnover on payment cards through ATMs and POS-terminals in Azerbaijan increased by 2.08 billion manat ($1.2 billion), or 49.05 percent, from 4.2 billion ($2.4 billion) to 6.3 billion manat ($3.7 billion) year-on-year, Trend reports.

According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, the total number of transactions on payment cards amounted to 81.158 million (an increase of 78.43 percent over the year), including 4.286 million transactions worth 216 million manats were carried out abroad.

The number of debit card transactions (both within the country and abroad) amounted to 73.122 million in the amount of 5.905 billion manats, of which 11.76 million transactions in the amount of 2.686 billion manats were carried out through ATMs within the country, and through POS-terminals - 22.202 million transactions in the amount of 478 million manats within the country.

With credit cards (both within the country and abroad), bank customers carried out 8.036 million transactions for a total of 417 million manat.

At the same time, 426,000 transactions worth 82 million manat ($48.2 million) were carried out through ATMs within the country, and 4.091 million transactions worth 141 million manat ($82.9 million) were carried out using POS-terminals.

On May 1, 2023, the number of payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 2.154 million or 17.5 percent compared to the same period last year and reached 14.465 million against 12.311 million a year earlier.
