Decrease of Internet Access Prices in Azerbaijan to be Discussed

Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 March / Trend corr. S.Bbayeva / The Coordination council on Internet Development at the Communication and IT Ministry of Azerbaijan will develop recommendations for the reduction of prices for Internet access in the country, Rufat Gulmammadov, head of the Information Community Development Department at the Ministry, reported.

According to the analysis by NGO 'Internet forum of Azerbaijan' on Internet access prices through ADSL model with speed of 64 kb, it comprises $50 per month in Azerbaijan, but the figure comprises $5 or10 in Russia.

Gulmammadov stated the recommendations would be developed in the near future.

Earlier, Ali Abbasov, Communication and IT Minister, said that the internet-providers would get resources to render the internet services for further reduced costs. "We cannot influence the cost of international internet-channels, but still, there is a possibility to reduce the price of internal market," the Minister said.

Aztelecom and Baktelecom joint ventures were commissioned to consider tariffs for their internet-resources, in order to reduce them in the near future.

There are 30 internet-providers in Azerbaijan, but only two of them are State companies. Number of internet users, according to the Ministry, totals 1mln people in Azerbaijan.
