Baku, Azerbaijan, July 14
By Huseyn Valiyev - Trend:
Single rules for using the infrastructure of cable and sewerage facilities will be developed in Azerbaijan, Osman Gunduz, chairman of the Azerbaijan Internet Forum (AIF), told Trend.
He said that this issue was discussed July 12 during a meeting with Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan Ramin Guluzade.
“During the meeting, along with successful work in the field of ICT, the existing difficulties were also touched upon and the necessary measures on their elimination were considered,” Gunduz said.
“One of the topics was related to the issue of ensuring active participation of the private sector in the development of broadband internet, which requires that providers effectively use the infrastructure of cable and sewerage facilities. As I understood from the minister’s words, finally, the rules will be developed that envisage equitable use of the infrastructure of cable and sewerage facilities by both public and private providers.”
The ministry and its structural subdivisions have long been carrying out monitoring and optimization of the infrastructure of cable and sewerage facilities, but there are no rules for using this infrastructure, he noted.
“For this reason, special attention was paid to this issue, and the minister said that the development of such rules will generally serve the development of broadband internet in the country,” Gunduz said. “The minister also noted that the AIF can also present its vision of this issue. I think that this is a very positive step on the part of the minister. Of course, during the meeting, a number of other issues were touched upon, and as I understood, the ministry is interested in cooperation with the private sector and civil society for the benefit of the ICT development.”
Earlier, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan told Trend that the work on optimization of the cable and sewerage facilities of Baku Telephone Communication LLC Company is planned to be completed by the end of the year.
Optimization involves decommissioning of cable lines that don't meet the needed requirements.
Private providers, using the new infrastructure of cable and sewerage facilities, will be able to get Ethernet and optical ports to deploy their services in any direction and at any point.
