Number of ICT companies intensively grows

“Over 200 Companies on information and communications technologies, including 22 providers, function in Azerbaijan,” Yashar Hajiyev, the Director of the Analytical Center of Information Policy, also the coordinator of the Global Internet Policy Initiative (GIPI) project on Azerbaijan, told Trend.

In 1997 the number of the companies comprised 40, in 1998 - 50, in 1999 - 55, in 2000 - over 70.

GIPI is implemented at the initiative of U.S. humanitarian organization Internews and Center of Democracy and Technologies, functioning in over 26 countries of the world, including the CIS and Eastern Europe, as well as some countries of Asia and South America. The key objective of the project is to assist to reforming of national legislative systems in order to speed up development of information and communications technologies.
