TRACECA: Single Transit Permit aims to increase corridor's competitiveness

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 23

By Nargiz Ismayilova – Trend:

The TRACECA Single Transit Permit (STP) is under approval by the authorities of the corridor countries, Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat (PS) of the IGC TRACECA, Asset Assavbayev, told Trend.

The initiative on the TRACECA STP aims to increase the competitiveness of the corridor by digitalizing processes and procedures for obtaining permits, and will also help reduce the time and cost of the transportation process and optimize control procedures by reducing the number of permits.

Thus, this agreement creates the conditions for increasing the attractiveness of the route and attracting additional freight traffic.

“I am sure that implementation of this agreement and the application in practice of a single transit permit in electronic format will increase the volume of goods transported by attracting freight flows from alternative transport routes. Surely, this will also be a significant step in the establishment of the TRACECA digital ecosystem,” he said.

On June 11, 2020, a meeting of the Permanent Representatives (National Secretaries) of the PS IGC TRACECA was held in an online conference mode. During the meeting, the participants exchanged views on issues of principles, approaches and methods for determining the routes of this corridor, the proposed draft agreement on a Single Transit Permission for the project, as well as the accession of the parties to the agreement on the development of multimodal transport TRACECA.

TRACECA is a system of international cargo transportation by road, based on the Customs Convention on the international carriage of goods using TIR.

The TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission is open to all initiatives that contribute to strengthening the regional transport dialogue and ensuring efficient and reliable international Euro-Asian transport links that contribute to the active development of the economy.

The TRACECA corridor is involved in gradually developing trends in trade and economic relations. The main cargo flows that pass through the corridor, on the one hand, are formed in Western and Central Europe, and on the other - in Central and Southeast Asia.
