Turkmenistan extends regime of test road transport through checkpoints at borders

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 5

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Turkmenistan extends the regime of test road transport through border checkpoints, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenportal information portal.

On a special platform between the checkpoints of the countries, the cargo is moved from foreign cars to Turkmen ones, which deliver it to the destination on the territory of Turkmenistan or another country.

Сurrently, contactless transportation is carried out at three checkpoints - Garabogaz-Temirbaba on the Turkmen-Kazakh border, Sarakhs-Sarakhs and Artyk-Lutfabad on the Turkmen – Iranian border, the report says.

The report also said rail transit on the Turkmen-Iranian border through the Sarakhs terminal has increased by 35 percent over the last 7 months compared to the same period last year.

The cargo turnover through Sarakhs from Turkmenistan to Iran amounted to 200,000 tons of goods.

The exported goods were sent to the Iranian cities of Bandar Abbas and Mirjaveh.

Earlier, a new automobile bridge has opened to connect the namesake cities of Sarakhs on the two sides of the Turkmen-Iranian border. The opening ceremony was held on June 8, 2020.

This was the second joint border development project on the construction of automobile bridges between the two countries aiming to expand and develop road transportation.
