Uzbekistan, Latvia expanding partnership in international road transport

Uzbekistan and Latvia agreed to expand partnership in the area of transport to a new level by creating Latvian-Uzbek working group on transport cooperation, the Ministry of Economics of Latvia told Trend.

According to the information, in the framework of the agreement between Latvia and Uzbekistan on Economic and Industrial Cooperation, Intergovernmental Commission was established in 1998. It was noted that the commission has become a platform for addressing relevant issues and deepening economic ties and has since been functioning on a regular basis.

On 21 April 2021, of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation between Latvia and Uzbekistan was held via videoconference. In accordance with the agenda, both sides discussed the priority areas of economic cooperation, including trade, transport, logistics, aviation, transit, education and science, agriculture, veterinary, tourism, ICT, and other.

In addition, following the meeting, an agreement was signed between the State Plant Quarantine Inspection under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Agriculture of Latvia on cooperation in the field of plant quarantine.

It was also noted that the first meeting of the Business Council of Entrepreneurs of Latvia and Uzbekistan that was held, will give impetus to promote cooperation between Uzbek and Latvian entrepreneurs and create new cooperation projects.

“All agreements reached during the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and Business Council are important to develop trade and economic relations between Uzbekistan and Latvia,” the ministry stressed.
