BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30. Iran is currently holding a discussion with Turkmenistan about the increase of transit via railways, CEO of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (IRIR), Miad Salehi said, Trend reports.
Salehi said that if a result is reached in the discussions, 500 new wagons will be added to Iran's railway vehicles to increase freight traffic between the two countries.
The CEO added that the length of the distance from Sarakhs railway station on the border of Iran with Turkmenistan to the port of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan Province in the south of the country is 1,610 kilometers.
He stressed that Iran earns $40-$50 for each ton of cargo transited via railways and about 7 liters of diesel are consumed. However, if the cargo in the same direction is transited by roads, the income is still around $40-$50. But the fuel consumed is 60 liters of diesel per ton.
