Andrey Golubev won a first ATP title for Kazakhstan on Sunday when he captured the German Open trophy 6-3, 7-5 over Austrian Juergen Melzer, dpa reported.
World number 82 Golubev broke the third-seeded Melzer in the eighth game of the first set and 11th of the second to clinch victory in 1 hour 30 minutes.
Golubev went without dropping a set all week in which he defeated top seeded title holder Nikolay Davydenko on his 23rd birthday on Thursday in the third round.
The Russia-born Golubev, who took Kazakh citizenship in 2008, more than doubled his 2010 earnings with a winners' cheque of 228,000 euros (294,000 dollars). He will also make a major leap in Monday's rankings, breaking the top 50 for the first time in his career.
