EDB ready to finance joint projects of Kazakhstan and Russia’s Tatarstan Republic

Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) Nikolay Podguzov announced readiness as part of a bilateral meeting with President of Russia’s Tatarstan Republic Rustam Minnikhanov to finance investment projects of the country being implemented jointly with Kazakhstan, Trend reports with reference to the EDB.

“The sides also discussed the promising investment projects in the field of industrial production, infrastructure, and development of the Alabuga special economic zone,” the message said. “Podguzov informed Minnikhanov about readiness to take part in financing the projects of Tatneft PJSC being implemented in Kazakhstan.”

“In particular, the issue is the construction of a butadiene rubber plant in the Atyrau region and a tire manufacturing plant in the Karaganda region,” the message said.

According to the message, the sides also discussed the investment project of KAMAZ PJSC, which is already being implemented by the bank today, "Development of the model range of KAMAZ cars and modernization of capacity for production" (EDB is also a minority shareholder of KAMAZ PJSC with a stake of 3.72 percent) and its prospects.

“Another topic of the meeting was the development of Russia's biggest Alabuga special economic zone,” the message said. “A partnership agreement was signed during the Eurasian Congress of the EDB on December 2, 2021 to finance the construction of the infrastructure facilities of the special economic zone during the next five years.”

According to the message, the priorities of the partnership are to finance the construction of the social infrastructure of the special economic zone and to create the new sites and the projects of residents.

“Podguzov also presented to President Minnikhanov the key investment projects of the EAEU being implemented by the bank,” the message said. “One of them is the Eurasian transport framework.”

According to the message, it includes "North-South" and "Europe-Western China" transport corridors (passing through Tatarstan), in the creation of which the EDB has been actively involved both in the Russian Federation and in the Republic of Kazakhstan over the past few years.

“The project will ensure logistical advantages and reduce the costs for the companies involved in import and export operations,” the message said. “Podguzov announced the intention to participate in the projects for the development of transport infrastructure linking the country with other regions of Russia and the countries of the EAEU, as part of the construction of the Eurasian transport framework.”

According to the message, the issue is the support for the financing of the Moscow-Kazan, Kazan-Yekaterinburg and Shaly-Bavly routes as part of the Europe-Western China transport corridor.
