BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 5. Kazakhstan's new Bakhty-Ayagoz railway will boost cargo volume with China by up to 20 million, Nurlan Urankhayev, Akim (Head) of Abai Region, said during a briefing, Trend reports.

According to him, the railway, spanning 270 kilometers, is scheduled to be built between 2024 and 2025 in collaboration with the Government and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), the national railway company as part of the expansion of transport corridors. He also highlighted that the necessary land for the project has already been allocated and reserved by the local authorities.

Once completed, this project will increase the volume of railway transportation between Kazakhstan and China by up to 20 million tons annually. The development of the Bakhty-Ayagoz railway will significantly enhance trade connectivity and facilitate the movement of goods, reinforcing economic ties between the two countries.

Furthermore, the railway is more likely to have a significant contribution to the development of the Middle Corridor, which starts in China, crosses Central Asian countries, and then passes through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye before reaching Europe.
