ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 7. Around 60 percent of foreign investment in the Central Asian region falls on Kazakhstan, Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, said at a media briefing before the Astana International Forum (AIF), Trend reports.
According to him, Kazakhstan's economy grew by 3.2 percent in 2022 and is now one-third bigger than the economies of other Central Asian countries combined.
"All in all, the country has attracted $410 billion of foreign investments since its independence. Our economy has proved resilient to the geopolitical upheavals," he said.
Vassilenko outlined this as one of the reasons why Kazakhstan is suitable for holding such an international forum. He said that the country is aware that it is not immune to current global economic shocks and challenges, including inflation and decreased investor confidence, and from this perspective, the AIF is going to host several panels on economic issues, including promoting sustained and inclusive growth while ensuring sustainable development.
Among the other reasons, he highlighted Kazakhstan's objective foreign policy and strategic geographic position in the heart of Eurasia.
"It is in this connection that, several AIF sessions and discussions will assess ways to promote peace, prevent conflict, and organize the global order for the benefit of the world, as well as consider the future of multilateralism and the role of the UN in ensuring security," he said.
Astana International Forum is scheduled to be held on June 8-9. The two-day forum anticipates the participation of representatives from more than 100 countries. Emphasizing the theme of "Tackling Challenges Through Dialogue: Towards Cooperation, Development, and Progress," the Astana International Forum seeks to establish a forum for exchanging knowledge, discussing emerging technologies, and deliberating on strategies to confront critical global concerns.
