BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 21. Kazakhstan is interested in increasing the volume of cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor [Trans-Caspian International Transport Route - TITR] to 10 million tons in the medium term and is ready to provide its port facilities to meet the growing needs of German and European partners, Trend reports.

This was stated as part of President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier's acquaintance with new transport and logistics projects within the framework of the development of the Middle Corridor.

It was noted that at the moment the throughput capacity of Aktau and Kuryk ports exceeds 20 million tons. At the same time, the government is working to build external logistics terminals and digitalize routes.

The port of Kuryk is located on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea, south of the Aktau Commercial Sea Port, and its production capacity is 6 million tons of cargo per year. Currently, the port is working to expand the infrastructure and increase its transshipment capacity.

Furthermore, it was noted that today more than 80 percent of goods from China and Central Asia to Europe are transported through Kazakhstan. Against this background, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor, plays an increasingly important role on the continental trade map - the shortest route for transportation from Central and East Asia to Europe.

Last year, the transshipment of goods through it increased by 2 times, amounting to about 1.7 million tons. In the first five months of this year, cargo traffic increased by 64 percent, exceeding 1 million tons.
