ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 23. The gross output of the crop production industry in Kazakhstan increased 6.4 times from 895 billion tenge (about $1.88 billion) to 5.8 trillion tenge (about 12.2 billion) from 2010 to 2022, Trend reports.
Data from the Kazakhstan Institute of Economic Research shows that significant growth occurred in all categories of the industry; grain crops showed an 11-fold increase from 273 billion tenge (about $574.6 million) in 2010 to 3 trillion tenge (about $6.3 billion) in 2020.
In connection with the diversification of the agricultural sector from 2010 to 2022, there was an increase in oilseeds from 31 billion tenge (about $65.2 million) to 636 billion tenge (about $1.33 billion), or a twenty-fold increase in the production of oilseeds.
A fivefold increase occurred in the cultivation of vegetables, from 273 billion tenge (about $574.6 million) to 1 trillion tenge (about $2.1 billion).
The cultivation of fiber-spinning crops during this period increased five times, from 23 billion tenge (about $48.4) to 116 billion tenge (about $244 million).
Crop production is a large branch of the agricultural sector of Kazakhstan, which in 2022 contributed about 61 percent of gross agricultural output. The first place in terms of crops among agricultural crops is occupied by grains, which account for almost 56 percent of the republic’s sown area. Crop production is the basis of agriculture in Kazakhstan. The largest share is occupied by spring wheat, which is sold not only on the domestic market but also on the foreign market. It is also worth noting the prevalence of crops such as rice, buckwheat, barley, oats, millet, and corn.
Significant cultivated areas are allocated for sugar beets and oilseeds (sunflower and rapeseed). Cotton and flax are grown for the textile industry. In addition, crops such as potatoes, apples, melons, and grapes are actively grown.
