ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 2. Foreign companies will invest in healthcare projects in Kazakhstan, Trend reports.

This was stated during a meeting of the Council for Improving the Investment Climate in Kazakhstan, chaired by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov.

As Smailov noted, the government actively cooperates with major representatives of the global pharmaceutical industry, providing packages of government support measures.

"Thus, it is planned to conclude an Investment Agreement with Pfizer on the localization of drug production. An agreement was reached with AstraZeneca to create a contract production of original medicines with an investment of $32 million. At the same time, during the visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the US, a framework agreement was signed with GE Healthcare on the localization of the production of medical equipment worth $60 million. At the same time, a number of projects are being developed with Roshe for the amount of $2.5 million," he said.

He noted that contract production projects with investors from South Korea, Türkiye, Egypt and Israel are at various stages of implementation.

"Measures taken by the government have a positive effect on the investment attractiveness of the healthcare sector. Thus, at the end of last year, investments in fixed assets in the healthcare sector increased by almost 30 percent, amounting to about $540 million," he said.

Smailov added that over the past 7 years, the volume of the pharmaceutical market has increased 2.9 times.
