ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 14. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan agreed on the supply of water for irrigated lands in the Jambyl region, Trend reports.
This agreement was reached by the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Nurzhigitov and the Minister of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan Askarbek Dzhanybekov.
Thus, as a result of the negotiations, a decision was made to carry out measures to restore water supply through the Tuite canal on the Talas River.
Nurzhan Nurzhigitov noted the need to expand the list of water management facilities for interstate use to improve water supply to Kazakhstan.
Thus, the Kazakh side proposes to add to this list the Akmolda, Karataki and Tomentamga canals with installations on the Kurkureusu River, the Kolos canal on the Shu River and the Kozh canal with installations on the Talas River.
"As you know, this year farmers of the Jambyl region experienced a shortage of irrigation water in the Shu and Talas river basins. Therefore, it is very important for us to prevent a repetition of such a situation," Nurzhigitov said.
The next meeting of the joint Commission on the use of interstate water facilities on the Shu and Talas rivers will be held on December 14 in Almaty.
Earlier, at a meeting with counterparts from Central Asian countries in Uzbekistan, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov agreed to supply 11.1 cubic kilometers of water to the Turkestan and Kyzylorda regions by April 1, of which 1.6 billion cubic meters of water to the Aral Sea.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan plans to implement eight projects for the construction and reconstruction of group water pipelines.
