ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 8. Kazakhstan's banks and Kazpost JSC carried out transactions in the amount of 1.17 billion documents using the payment tools in October 2023, Trend reports.
Citing data from Kazakhstan's National Bank, the total value of these transactions was 79.9 trillion tenge (about $174.3 billion).
Money cards and money orders are the most often used payment options in Kazakhstan. At the same time, the average payment order amount in October 2023 was 581,468 tenge (about $1,268).
The use of this payment instrument mostly for small-amount payments and transfers characterizes a large proportion of payment cards in terms of number, but a tiny proportion in terms of transaction volume.
Checks and electronic payment tools were the least commonly used payment tools during this time period. The distinctiveness of these instruments accounts for a minor portion of their total number and volume of use.
As of November 1, 2023, Kazakhstan had 73.5 million payment cards in circulation. The most common are debit cards, whose share is 80.7 percent, and credit cards, whose share is 16.6 percent. The share of debit cards with a credit limit and prepaid cards accounted for 2.7 percent. As of November 1, 2022, there were 63.562 million payment cards in Kazakhstan.
At the same time, the number of cards in use on November 1, 2023, was 37.837 million, up from 32.240 million on November 1, 2022.
