ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 12. The volume of cargo transportation by rail in Kazakhstan amounted to 31.8 million tons in January 2024, Trend reports.
The country's Bureau of National Statistics' data shows that this is 5.5 percent less than the level of January 2023.
At the same time, cargo turnover by rail for the above period amounted to 25.3 billion ton-kilometers, which is 6.5 percent less than in January 2023.
Moreover, in January 2024, 1.8 million passengers were transported by rail. This figure exceeds the same period in 2023 by 5.6 percent.
In addition to this, passenger turnover for the above period amounted to 1.4 billion passenger-kilometers, which is 3.4 percent more than January 2023.
Meanwhile, loading on the Kazakhstan Railways network (KTZ, national company) amounted to 257.3 million tons from January through December 2023, which is 5 million tons higher than in 2022. Exports increased by 9 percent to 85.8 million tons.
At the same time, the operational freight turnover of KTZ reached 269 billion t-km. This is 7 percent more than in 2022.
