ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 26. The volume of cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor) amounted to 274,200 tons in January 2024, Trend reports.
This was stated during the meeting on the development of transport corridors North-South and the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin.
Thus, the volume of cargo transportation on this route in January increased by 147 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
It was also noted that the Middle Corridor is a serious alternative to routes in the East-West direction. Its throughput capacity is 6 million tons. In 2023, the volume of transportation amounted to 2.76 million tons of cargo, which is 65 percent higher than in 2022.
The Middle Corridor is a transportation and trade route that connects Asia and Europe, passing through several countries in the region. It is an alternative route to the traditional Northern Corridor and Southern Corridor.
The route starts in China and crosses Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It then passes through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye before reaching Europe.
The Middle Corridor offers a land route that connects the eastern parts of Asia, including China, with Europe, bypassing the longer maritime routes.
