ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 2. Kazakhstan plans to build a third wind power plant with a capacity of 1 GW in the Abay region, said the head of the region Nurlan Urankhayev during a meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Trend reports.

"Projects are being developed for the construction of a coal chemical complex at the Karazhyra deposit and a third wind power plant with a capacity of 1 GW," he said.

According to him, in general, the region is implementing a Comprehensive Social and Economic Development Plan, consisting of 102 activities with an investment volume of 1.9 trillion tenge (about $4.2 billion).

In addition, he provided information on the progress of developing a feasibility study for the construction of CHPP-3.

Thus, according to preliminary calculations, the planned thermal power will be 1200 Gcal/hour and electrical power – 360 MW.

Moreover, the head of the region touched upon the development of interregional cross-border cooperation. According to him, together with the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, agreements were reached on joint investment projects and the construction of a temporary border crossing point. Work is underway to open the Semey – Tacheng flight, which will give impetus to the development of tourism. A roadmap for the development of cooperation with the Republic of Tatarstan was also signed.

Meanwhile, electric energy generation in Kazakhstan is carried out by 222 power plants, of which 146 are renewable energy facilities with a total capacity of 2.8 GW.

Today, there are 220 power plants operating in the country, including 144 renewable energy ones, with a total capacity of 2.8 GW. In general, as of January 1, 2024, the total available capacity was 20.4 GW, and the maximum consumption in the current autumn-winter period was 16.6 GW.
