Presidents of Kazakhstan, Iran to meet in Shanghai during SCO summit

(Kazakhstan today) - Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Iran, will meet in Shanghai during the SCO summit. Kassymzhomart Tokayev, Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, discussed preparations for this meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan has informed Kazakhstan Today.

The ministers also reviewed problems of the nuclear non-proliferation and the situation around the Iranian nuclear programme. Mr. Mottaki informed Mr. Tokayev about his country's position on that issue and about the attitude of Iran to a package of incentives received from six states that had participated in a recent Vienna meeting, reports Trend.

The SCO summit will be held in Shanghai on 15 June. An exchange of opinions on mutually beneficial co-operation will take place, the five-year development of the SCO will be discussed, the current situation in the region and in the world will be analysed, prospects of the SCO development will be considered, and concrete plans of further co-operation will be outlined. A package of documents is expected to be inked during the summit.
