EDB to carry out feasibility study of Kyrgyz Kambarata HPP-1

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 3. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Zhaparov, expressed hope that the country, along with the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), will begin a feasibility study of Kambarata hydropower plant -1 (HPP), in 2023, Trend reports via Kyrgyz media.

The matter was discussed during the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting in a wide format in Kazakhstan’s Almaty.

According to Zhaparav, at this point, Kyrgyzstan by cooperating with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan has already started working out the issue of the construction of Kambarata HPP-1. The implementation of the project will ensure the energy balance in Central Asia.

As Zhaparov said, Kyrgyzstan is ready to cooperate with all partners on the implementation of joint projects in all economic fields.

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan signed a roadmap for the construction of Kambarata HPP-1 in the Kyrgyz Jalal-Abad region, with a planned capacity of 1,800 mW, on January 6, 2023. As Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, Taalaibek Ibraev, said, the HPP will reduce the energy deficiency of the country.

Additionally, EDB plans to allocate funds to the construction of Kulanak HPP with a c capacity of 100 mW in the Naryn District of Kyrgyzstan. The HPP is a part of the EDB Water and Energy Complex of Central Asia megaproject. In total, according to the bank, EDB invests $113 million in 9 projects in Kyrgyzstan.
