BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26. Kyrgyzstan imported 123,693 tons of wheat from January through March 2023, which is 80.9 percent more than in the first quarter of 2022 – 68,361 tons, Trend reports.
According to the Kyrgyzstan’s statistical data, the value of the imports amounted to $17.7 million, increasing by 22.3 percent compared to the $14.5 million in 1Q2022.
In the reporting period, Russia became the main supplier of this product to Kyrgyzstan, exporting 119,609 tons of wheat to the country, which is 81.7 percent more than 65,828 tons of wheat in 1Q2022.
Although, the growth recorded in volume was quite impressive, the value of the Kyrgyz imports from Russia increased only by 19.6 percent year-on-year – from $13.913 million to $16.640 million.
An amount of 4,083 tons of wheat were imported by Kyrgyzstan from Kazakhstan, recording a rise of 61.2 percent compared to 2,532 tons in 1Q2022. As for the value, it increased by 83 percent year-on-year – to $1.1 million from $618,100.
Meantime, a total of 80,900 hectares of land have been sown with spring wheat in Kyrgyzstan from January through March 2023,which is a decrease of 21.5-percent compared to the same period of 2022.
