BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 28. Kyrgyzstan exported a total of 668,979 tons of black coal from January through July 2023, which is an increase of 68 percent compared to the same period in 2022 (396,249 tons), Trend reports.
The total value of these coal exports amounted to $27.195 million, growing by 64.6 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2022 ($16.520 million).
During this time frame, Kyrgyzstan's primary destination for black coal exports was Uzbekistan, with an export of 507,958 tons valued at $16.426 million.
Following Uzbekistan, the other major importers were Romania (74,161 tons), the Netherlands (37,268 tons), Slovakia (16,329 tons), Türkiye (13,442 tons), Poland (10,715 tons), and Hungary (6,389 tons).
Additionally, the production of black coal within Kyrgyzstan reached 376,500 tons from January through August 2023, up by 10.3 percent in comparison to the same period in 2022 (341,500 tons).
Head of the regional department "Bishkek-Alamudun" of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Nurlan Sharsheev, has recently announced plans for the construction of two coal enrichment plants in Kyrgyzstan. One of these plants will be built near the Kara-Kechin coal deposit, while the second one will be located in the southern part of the country.
