Kyrgyzstan's imports of passenger cars from South Korea surge

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 3. Kyrgyzstan imported 28,961 passenger cars from South Korea from January through July 2023, which is an increase of 8.6 times compared to the same period in 2022, Trend reports.

Data from the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan reveals that the total value of the imports reached $243.639 million, which is 12 times higher than in the same period in 2022 ($19.292 million).

South Korea emerged as the primary exporter of passenger cars to Kyrgyzstan during this reporting period. It was followed by China (14,910 cars), the US (12,754 cars), Russia (7,627 cars), and Japan (7,469 cars).

In total, Kyrgyzstan imported 84,927 passenger cars in the first seven months of 2023, with a total value of $1.128 billion. The import volume surged by 4.4 times compared to the same period in 2022 when 18,882 cars were imported. The value of these imports rose by 6.7 times compared to the corresponding months of 2022 ($166.521 million).

Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover amounted to $8.153 billion from January through July 2023, which is an increase of 32.3 percent compared to the same months in 2022.

Exports amounted to $1.602 billion, increasing by 45.6 percent compared to the corresponding months of 2022. Imports rose by 29.4 percent year-on-year, totaling $6.551 billion.
