BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 4. Grain crops in Kyrgyzstan (excluding leguminous crop, rice, and buckwheat) have been harvested from an area of 394,800 hectares as of August 23, 2023, which is 2 percent less than as of the same date last year, Trend reports.
Data from the Kyrgyzstan Statistics Committee indicates that due to abnormally high temperatures during this year's summer, the wheat harvest has decreased by 29.7 percent, and barley by 43.6 percent compared to the same period of 2022.
In the same months, a total of 725,900 metric tons of grains were threshed, which is a 33.1 percent lower compared to the same period in 2022. The decrease in threshed volumes is attributed to a 31.9 percent decline in the yield of grain crops.
Temperature fluctuations during the spring affected the harvest of leguminous and oil crops. As of August 23, legume crops were harvested from an area of 2,800 hectares, which is 19 percent less than the corresponding date last year, while oil crops were harvested from an area of 4,800 hectares, down by a 12 percent.
However, compared to the same date last year, there was a significant increase in the potato harvest, up by 8.1 percent, vegetables by 3.8 percent, and melon crops by 1.7 percent.
