BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 26. Tajikistan's exports of cotton to Türkiye sharply declined in 2022, Trend reports citing the Customs Service of Tajikistan.
According to statistics, Tajikistan exported 14,974 tons of cotton to Türkiye in 2022, which is more than a threefold decrease compared to 2021 (50,035 tons).
During the last year, the total value of cotton exports from Tajikistan to Türkiye decreased by 61.3 percent in comparison to 2021 ($96.1 million) - to $37.1 million.
Turkish Statistical Institute reveals that Tajikistan's trade turnover with Türkiye reached almost $500 million from January through November 2022. Tajikistan mainly exports to Türkiye aluminum, cotton ad cotton fiber.
Tajikistan's economy is mainly driven by agriculture and depends highly on the export of cotton both as a source of income and employment. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Tajik farmers harvested 413,700 tons of cotton, as of December 5, 2022.
