DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, November 27. The value of industrial production manufactured in Tajikistan’s Khatlon region amounted to 7.983 billion somoni ($733.6 million) from January through October 2023, Trend reports.
According to the Khatlon region's Executive Body of State Power, this is an increase of 694.6 million somoni ($63 million) over the same period last year.
107 industrial firms and workshops began operations in the Khatlon region during the first ten months of this year, offering employment prospects for hundreds of local citizens.
Tajikistan's industrial production increased by 8.9 percent during January to October 2023 compared to the previous year. During this time, total industrial goods production reached 37.059 billion somoni ($3.4 billion).
The key drivers of this expansion were 5.4 percent increases in extractive sectors, 12.8 percent increases in manufacturing, and 10.4 percent increases in electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply.
Tajikistan is now implementing a rapid industrialization strategy for the years 2022-2026. In January 2022, President Rahmon named this period the 'Years of Industrial Development,' with ambitious intentions to raise industrial output by 2.5 times in five years. The target for 2026 is 95 billion somoni ($9.3 billion), up from 38.8 billion somoni ($3.7 billion) in 2021.
