DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, February 19. The economic growth in Tajikistan in January 2024 reached 8.1 percent, the country's President Emomali Rahmon, said, Trend reports.
Rahmon made this announcement during his address to the government, where the socio-economic development results of January 2024 were discussed.
The president of Tajikistan noted that there were serious shortcomings in the country's economic development, including a decrease in the growth rate of the agricultural sector by 1.2 percent, the processing industry by 1.8 percent, energy supply by 14.9 percent, and the construction sector by 1.6 percent compared to the same period last year. He said that this necessitates the adoption of additional measures in these areas.
In light of the increasingly complex global situation, Rahmon deemed necessary to strengthen the progress achieved last year and lay the groundwork for significant achievements in the current year.
According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Tajikistan reached 130.8 billion somoni ($11.9 billion) in 2023, with GDP growth at 8.3 percent.
