The next meeting of the
Council of Elders of Turkmenistan is being held today, just two days before the country's 20th independence anniversary celebrations, an official Turkmen source said on Tuesday. Council of Elders meets annually to discuss issues of national importance and serves as an advisory body.
According to the country's media outlets, the forum is held 'following sacred traditions and customs of the deep respect given to elders, paying tribute to their wisdom and unquestionable authority, with a sense of pride for elders.
'It is a worthy role in the glorious history of the Turkmen people, national heritage and upbringing younger generation in the spirit of high morality, honor, and patriotism'.
In addition it was noted that the meeting is necessary 'to strengthen the solidarity of the people, efficient use of rich life experience and wise principles of elders in joint discussion and addressing urgent issues of the country's life.'
