The concept of Turkmenistan's chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) includes 31 events in 2012, 10 of which will be organized in Ashgabat, the rest - in other CIS countries, the state news agency Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary said today.
The decision was made at the CIS summit in Dushanbe in September this year to elect Turkmenistan as a chairman in the CIS for 2012.
The details of the concept of Turkmenistan's chairmanship were discussed at a governmental meeting, the report said. Turkmenistan will conduct the meetings of the Council of Heads of States, Heads of Governments and Foreign Ministers of CIS member states, as well as the Economic Council of the CIS countries.
Other major activities hosted by Turkmenistan through the CIS will be the seventh Forum of Creative and Scientific Intelligentsia of the CIS countries, international conferences on energy and food security.
Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary quotes the President during the period of the country's chairmanship in the CIS, Turkmenistan will fully contribute to intensify favorable ties and to implement all available opportunities to develop the multifaceted effective communication that meets the interests of the peoples and the CIS countries.
The CIS events including a film festival, an agricultural forum, the summit of foreign ministers, a meeting of the Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification, a meeting of the commanders of border troops of CIS countries were held in Ashgabat.
