Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has today received the new Malaysian Ambassador Mohd Zulkephli bin Mohd Noor, who delivered his credentials, the Turkmen government said on Wednesday.

The diplomat conveyed greetings from the leadership of his country. He congratulated Turkmenistan with the upcoming 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries. He expressed great interest in the progressive development of the Turkmen-Malaysian constructive dialogue.

They exchanged the views on the entire spectrum of relations as having great prospects, as well as significant resource and economic potential. Trade, economic and energy spheres are among the key areas of mutual interest.

The Turkmen President and Malaysian diplomat expressed confidence in the successful continuation of constructive cooperation.

Malaysia's interest in the Turkmen market is connected with the activity of the state oil company Petronas Charigali, working in the Turkmen sector of Caspian Sea since 1996.

The company has started commercial production and export of crude oil in Turkmenistan since May 2006. The oil transportation route is via Azerbaijan and Iran.
