A law setting legal, economic and organizational framework for certification took effect in Turkmenistan. The law was signed by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
"Normative legal acts of Turkmenistan are subject to be brought into conformity with the current law within three months from the date of its entry into force," according to the law.
According to the new law, the state regulation and control over the certification sphere are carried out by the Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers, authorized body or other state bodies within their competence.
The new law includes an article dedicated to the issues of industrial security.
"In order to ensure the safety of dangerous production facilities, implementation of works and rendering services, protection of industrial workers, the population and the environment from exposure to dangerous and harmful production factors, production and technological equipment , materials and chemicals, vehicles carrying dangerous cargo, as well as the means of individual and collective protection of the personnel are subject to certification for compliance with industrial safety requirements, " the document said.
Earlier, Turkmenistan adopted an "Order of certification of products imported to Turkmenistan from foreign countries".
In accordance to this document, Turkmenstandartlary main state service carries out certification in the country and covers almost all products and goods produced in large and small, public and private enterprises.
Turkmenstandartlary is a corresponding member of the International Organization for Standardization - ISO since 1993, it participates in the work of Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification since 1992, and in the Interregional Association for Standardization of ECO member states since 1991.
Turkmenistan uses ISO-9000 globally recognized international standards. Enterprises of significant export-oriented industries - textiles, chemicals, oil refining - have already received certificates corresponding to this quality system.
Turkmenstandartlary has been entrusted with functions of an independent expert group for assessment of the quality of agricultural products, first of all grain and cotton.
