Turkmenistan will take the measures to turn agriculture into a profitable sector of the economy, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmenistan State News Agency.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave the corresponding instructions.
“Turkmenistan pays special attention to the fundamental transformation and development of the agro-industrial complex proceeding from the importance of agriculture in creating food abundance, in the production of various types of environmentally friendly crops, as well as in providing the industrial sector with raw materials and import-substituting agricultural products, increasing the export potential of the country,” President Berdimuhamedov said.
The president emphasized the need for work to improve the legislative framework, proceeding from the tasks set for the effective use of all the possibilities of the agro-industrial complex and turning agriculture into a profitable sector of the economy.
Agriculture is one of the most important sectors of the Turkmen economy. Wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetables, melons and gourds, fruits and berries are the main types of agricultural crops that are grown in the country.
